Buderus have increased their range of energy saving commercial boiler controls with the new MCM10 intelligent sequencing module. Designed especially for Buderus multiple boiler systems such as the popular GB162 range the Multi-Cascade Module (MCM) offers several additional control options, simplifies operating functionality and ultimately increases efficiency by minimising fuel consumption.

The MCM10 can be used in conjunction with boilers using the integral EMS energy management controls platform. Each unit has the capability to control up to four individual boilers, but the operational range is easily expandable as up to four identical MCM10 modules can interconnected to control a cascade of up to 16 boilers. With a straightforward 'plug-and-play' style installation the MCM is very quick to set up and automatically detects the number of boilers connected.

By monitoring the running hours of each boiler in the cascade the MCM10 can 'intelligently' sequence boiler usage, alternating each appliance from being the lead boiler, to being the last boiler that comes into operation. This evens out the wear on each boiler to ensure longer life for the whole heating system. It can also select the best configuration of boilers to bring into operation in a cascade, even with differing boiler outputs, to most closely match heating supply to demand and to maximise system efficiency. In the event of any boiler failure, the sequencer switches over to the next boiler and 'flags' the error fault - an especially useful feature for installations such as hotels and hospitals where a guaranteed heat supply is vital.

The MCM10 is a simple, compact and unobtrusive wall mounted unit with clear visual indicators that can be used with either condensing or non-condensing boilers and with any size of cascade output. The sequencer acts as an intermediary between a traditional 0-10v boiler management system or for optimum performance, works in conjunction with separate controls such as the Buderus RC35 programmer to intelligently select and instruct the heating system on the precise requirements of which boilers are sequenced to operate, automatically modulating and distributing the heat load as required.

The MCM10 represents another step forward in the drive to improve the management of energy in modern commercial buildings. With their latest innovation Buderus have enhanced their already comprehensive range of heating controls to assist facilities managers, specifiers, heating engineers and those responsible for reducing the operating costs of businesses and institutions in delivering real benefits in performance and fuel efficiency at a time when every pound saved makes a big difference.
