A lesson in fuel efficiency

Buderus GB312 boiler
A new fuel efficient heating system has been installed to replace the existing 27-year old boilers at the prestigious Ashville College in Harrogate.

Two Buderus GB312 200kW output, floor standing, condensing boilers now meet all the heating requirements for the entire Senior School building, previously serviced by two 296kW Ideal Viceroy cast-iron boilers.

"We are expecting big savings in the fuel bills and a big improvement in the controlled comfort to all rooms.

“Because of the long history of the school, floor levels do vary considerably and have been subject to many alterations during the course of time. So a decision was made to completely renew the pipework throughout including, radiators trv's and increased levels of insulation, providing a versatile and well controlled installation."

Boiler replacement

The schools building management team, together with heating engineering contractors Robinsons M&E of Harrogate, identified the need to renew the old boilers, which were giving problems with servicing and spares availability.

Having consulted Buderus and Robinsons for advice on the most suitable replacement, the economies of a new system were apparent and the work was implemented during the school's summer recess.

Chris Spencer of Robinsons M&E chose the Buderus GB312 condensing boilers for their proven quality, efficiency and reliability.

The Buderus GB312 boiler is a high performance, condensing boiler with an advanced cast-aluminium heat exchanger which provides efficiencies of up to 108% (NVC).

Six outputs are available from 90kW to 280kW and boilers can be fitted individually or as part of a pre-assembled 2-boiler cascade kit.

Multiple low-NOx pre-mix burners provide a wide modulation range making the GB312 flexible enough to suit a variety of commercial installations.

It is a particularly good choice for medium sized office blocks, where its compact dimensions, and relative light weight make it easy to transport to boiler and plant rooms that would otherwise be difficult to access.

A fully insulated casing, minimises thermal losses, and makes the boiler whisper quiet, even when running at full output.

Servicing and maintenance is also very simple and straight forward. All parts are accessible from the front, allowing burners and the heat exchanger to be quickly cleaned and checked over without having to disturb the gas connections.

The GB312 is able to operate at high levels of efficiency whatever the demand for heat, thanks to a sophisticated but user friendly Buderus Energy Management System (EMS). The EMS controls platform provides a single interface so that all functions of the heating system are easily monitored and adjusted.

Ashville College upgrade programme

Ashville College has a long established and impressive track record of academic achievement coupled with an ethos of developing the potential of every individual. Established in a purpose designed building 120 years ago, it has been extended several times to meet the growing need for extra facilities to accommodate higher numbers of students and an ever increasing curriculum.

The latest £6 million campus upgrade programme is to be implemented on a number of buildings on the site and is to include new configuration of rooms, electrical services, network systems, fire and security detection, roofing and flooring as well as the new heating system.
